Sensational meat pies every time

The first pies can be traced back to the ancient Egyptians who made a sweet pie from rye, wheat and barley filled with honey. The history of the New Zealand meat pie dates back to British settlers bringing their own versions of the meat pie including steak and kidney pie to New Zealand. National Food Standards in Australia and New Zealand require a meat pie to be at least 25% meat flesh1.

The New Zealand meat pie is a hand sized meat pie which consists of diced or minced meat and gravy with several other fillings and consumed generally as a take away snack. New Zealanders love their pies and consume 75 million of them every year. According to the Heart Foundation, the average pie consumption in New Zealand is 16 pies per person per year, with younger males aged 15-24 making up the largest consumption group1. Pies are part of the New Zealand national identity and are considered part of the New Zealand national cuisine.

If you’re looking for a consistent meat pie thickener that gives a high quality meat pie every time, Ingredion has a solution for you.
